I work with Epoxy coatings all the time. Generally they have poor finish properties and are used as a component of a multi stage application where a Polyurethane is the topcoat for gloss, color and UV protection.

The Submarine paint sounds real good for a bottom coat. Whats the pricing like?

I think it was 120 a gallon then you need reducer and realy dint have the colors i want i think i will just do a cheapy paint job with that Duplacolor paint shop paint i dont know how long it will last but if i can get 4 years out of it that will be cool

Check out Endura Paint, 2 part polyurathane. Very tough stuff and resonably priced. I just bought all the primer (high build), two different colours of top coat and enough clear to do the entire boat for under $500.00 bucks Cdn. Now if the weather would co-operate.

Hey Skidoodave is the primer a specific type for the poly paint? After seeing Sspeeds paint jobs and knowing some others are using it I'm going Poly also. Good luck with the weather, seems to be an unpredictable year.

The primer is also from Endura and is matched to the paint. I bought the primer in Black as the top coat will also be black to help with hide in case of a scratch.

Here is a description of the primer I took right from their website.

Endura Intermix Epoxy Primer 3:1 is a high solids, medium build,
two-component primer providing excellent adhesion, hardness and corrosion
resistance over a wide range of surfaces. It is specially formulated to fill a
sandblast profile in one coat.

The epoxy primer I use is $67 CDN for a mixed gallon - A & B, way cheaper than Endura. I also find Endura Poly to be a "thin" paint compared to others
ICI is another manufacturer of Epoxy/Poly
